Beautiful Bavarians

My good friends Mike & Abby from Germany came and visited us here in sweltering Arizona for a couple days and we had some sweet times. Mike is in the Draggers c.c. over in Munchen and he is an amazing artist and tattooer. He drew this year's show poster and tattooed it on me over the weekend. Ooooh, it turned out so good. Thanks so much brother. I love you!!

I gave them the Arizona grand tour from Prescott to Tucson, in record breaking temps for August. It hit 120 f. the other day, it's hot. We hit up some vintage shops, junk yards, shot guns, built a chopper, ate tons and tons of food and got fat. Mike even ate the super great big one. We all saw him do it. It was a feat I couldn't master.

We enjoyed having you guys and we miss you loads!

Love the armenta family

See you next summer in Munchen

san diego sun and fun

Matthew and I went down to San Diego to celebrate his big bday with his family and we had such a great time, as usual! The weather was absolutely perfect so we got sandwiches and went to the beach with his brother and best friend. It was so nice to sit outside and soak in the sun.

Matthew and his gorgeous mom!
eep! dodging a ball!

I love Matthew's family so much! They are the sweetest people and I just adore my nieces and nephews {so cool to be able to say that now.. yay I'm an aunt!}. Look how cute these kiddos are! They bring big smiles to my face!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Happy first of August!!

wedding wednesday: first bridal shower

Over the weekend my mom and I went up to the Bay Area because my wonderful family threw me a bridal shower! {Can you believe it's that time already?!} It was such a beautiful day and it was so nice seeing my aunts, cousins, and little cousins! The shower was held at Bocanova in Jack London Square and the food was absolutely amazing. I'm actually still thinking about it days later! There were jicama wedges with chile and lime juice, tortilla chips with tomatillo salsa, dungeness crab deviled eggs {so yum!}, fried shishito peppers with sea salt, veggie enchiladas, fried yucca fritters with shrimp and a cilantro sauce, roasted potatoes, salad with gruyere, roasted cauliflower with feta, aji amarillo and chives and for dessert...get ready for it...warm chocolate croissant bread pudding with mexican chocolate sauce and banana cake with cream cheese ice cream!!! It was so unbelievable good, I'm still drooling!

I loved spending time with my family and catching up. I really miss living closer to them, especially my adorable little cousins. We had such a great time playing tic tac toe and hangman. We figured out two of the hardest words to play..lazy and jazzy. They're too cute! I'm looking forward to seeing them all in May!

I know this Wedding Wednesday post is more like a
Early Thursday Morning Wedding post
{man, that doesn't sound nearly as good!}
but my poor little laptop died today,
creating some technical difficulties.
I should be getting a new one this weekend,
any recommendations for a PC laptop?
{I'm a Mac lover but sadly can't afford one this time around}

In Memory of my Grandma

So I have some sad news..My grandma passed away this morning in Pittsburgh. She had a really bad stroke last Sunday {her first ever} and my mom flew out shortly after. She just turned 86 in October {my mom and I were there to celebrate} but she was still so healthy and very active. She swam multiple times a week, walked a lot, and was still driving, so this was a very big shock. The stroke was so bad that she was paralyzed on one whole side of her body. My mom was sad my grandma never regained consciousness to say goodbye but it was probably a good thing so she wouldn't have to realize what state her body was in. Luckily she wasn't in any pain. My grandpa, her husband, passed away in September '09 so I know she missed him a lot. I'm really sad since I was so looking forward to my grandma coming to the wedding in May {and the shower next month}. It would have been so nice to have one of my grandparents there but now I guess they'll all be looking down on me and Matthew from heaven. My grandma was a wonderful lady. She had five children and set a great example of motherhood. I'm so grateful to her for giving me my amazing mom! I'll always remember Grandma's voice and the funny things she said. She drank her orange juice out of a little mason jar and wanted to title her autobiography "Cold Toast," because that's how she liked it. I'm so thankful for her life and all the memories we have together. She came to Berkeley in '09 to see me graduate from college {above}, which was so sweet, and in February she stayed with us for a week and then we went to Santa Barbara and Los Olivos. These recent trips, including the one in October for her birthday, will always be so special to me.

I have one favor: If you have a grandparent still living, please call them, give them a hug if you're close, and tell them you love them!! It will mean the world to them.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers during this time. It means so much!

Can you believe Christmas is over?! To be honest, I'm a little sad about it. It also makes me especially sad when I see Valentine's Day decorations out already {ugh.. seriously not necessary!} I love the week in between Christmas and New Years when family and friends are in town. It's so fun and relaxing.
Here are some pictures from my very food-filled holiday:
 Ginger and I went on a Christmas afternoon walk with my mom
 butternut squash and apple cider soup made by my brother!
 the best salad with butter lettuce, poached pears, blue cheese and candied pecans
 my new comfy pjs from J. Crew!
 cookbooks!!
some of my favorite decorations

I hope your holiday was filled with lots of love and laughs!
