look book: pumpkin patch

I have been wanting to go to a pumpkin patch for years! And when I say pumpkin patch I mean a real pumpkin patch, not one of those converted parking lots with straw on the ground. I want to go to a big, beautiful field and pick a big orange pumpkin and cut it right from the vines. In LA a real pumpkin patch is almost impossible to find, but I put Matthew to the test to do some research and he found the perfect place. Of course it ended up being a little outside of LA {yes, a whole county north}, but we found it nonetheless and had the best time picking out our pumpkins! Our yearly pumpkin carving competition is coming up and I need the perfect one to win :)

I love the color of this dress! It's so pretty and reminds me so much of the fall season. I've said it before but I'll say it again, this is my favorite season by far! The cooler weather, the change in lighting, the natural colors {mustards, browns, oranges}, the layering.. it really can't be beat! {Although I know some of you summer-holics would beg to differ!}

Have a great Monday friends!

recipe: tortellini with roasted butternut squash and mushrooms

Tortellini with Roasted Butternut Squash and Mushrooms

INGREDIENTS
1 small butternut squash, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
6 oz cremini mushrooms cut into quarters
1/4 cup fresh sage leaves
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound tortellini pasta
2 ounces Parmesan cheese, grated

DIRECTIONS
Preheat over to 450 degrees. Toss squash with mushrooms, safe leaves, oil and some salt and pepper. Roast, tossing midway, for about 20 minutes, or until tender.

Cook the tortellini according to the package. Reserve some pasta water just in case before draining. Add cooked tortellini to pan, add roasted vegetables and half of parmesan cheese. Toss with a little more olive oil if needed. Plate and serve with sprinkled cheese on top.

This is one of the easiest recipes but it's so good! Butternut squash is rich and delicious and I love how it reminds me of fall. Yesterday was LA's first rain of the season and I loved it so much, but for some reason it really had me missing last fall. I am such a nostalgic person {to a fault} and I couldn't help thinking about how I missed making tea on rainy mornings and going on cold afternoon walks with Ginger. It was a perfect season with so many exciting things going on, including the early stages of planning the wedding. I have to remind myself that this season will be amazing too. Maybe more so now that we're in our new apartment. Still have to get it together though. There may or may not be unpacked boxes that I've been neglecting to deal with...

Have a great day everyone!

look book: beating the season

LA has been such a tease with these cold mornings leading into these hot days. I am so ready for fall and all I want to do is wear houndstooth, plaid, wool... hmm what other fall textures are there? Anyways, I end up sweating during the afternoons {gross!} but feeling all fall for 5 minutes every morning is almost worth it. I might not be able to do a full fall transition right now but little by little I'm getting there! Especially with my cute new Fall booties!

I might be able to blame the West Coast with being behind in the season but I'm blaming myself on being behind in the times. Let me explain. Did you know that there's an iPhone 5 coming out? I'm guessing most of you will be like, "Of course. I live in 2011," but I had no idea.  Like, no idea! I didn't even know it was a possibility, maybe because I'm still stuck in 3G world, but it pretty much blew my mind. I'm thinking of ways to convince Matthew to let me get it. My phone doesn't hold a battery, the photos are so terrible, it will make me a better wife blah blah blah. The only thing is that he ups me with a "I don't even have an iPhone," emphasis on the "I." It's going to be a battle. Wish me luck.

Can you believe it's the first of September?! I'm always shocked to see another month fly by, but it's especially hard to believe this summer is basically over. I've been so busy that I've only been to the beach one time! one time! And now I live less than a mile away so it's pretty much unacceptable, don't you think? Whenever fall rolls around I have a big desire for change but in the past few months alone I've gotten married, moved into a new apartment, started a new job..I think that's plenty of change! So wearing a patterned jumpsuit is me being a little crazy and doing something a little different. {Boy, aren't I a wild one? Now go hide the scissors!}

look book: plaid and tweed are friends

This weekend was a very gloomy one, weather-wise. There was more rain in LA than I've seen in awhile and it lasted all weekend. I swear I don't think I heard it stop once on Sunday. It was nice to just stay in, cook, and relax but now that's it's officially spring {gosh, can you believe it?!}, I'm ready for lots of sun.

So I'm not really the best with mixing patterns and prints, although I am trying to work on it. Exhibit A: plaid shirt and tweed shorts. Something I hadn't really thought about, but I'm surprised I didn't think of it sooner. I think this top would look so great with tweed trouser pants, or a high waisted skirt. The outfit is very winter, which I guess is fitting since we're getting the tail end of our winter weather. Ok, Sun, I think I'm definitely ready for you to show your bright and shining face! However, if Mother Nature is trying to get all the rain out of her system before May, fine by me!

look book: pink lady

Photobucket
It may seem crazy that it's December and I'm wearing shorts but we had a crazy heat wave this past weekend and it was in the 80s! Ridiculous, right? Luckily, it's been a little cooler this week and it's supposed to rain tomorrow! I've been dying over this pretty pink blouse from Kakalina Rose Vintage. It's ladylike neck tie is just too cute. If I could wear it everyday I just might..

Can you believe it's almost the weekend?? As excited as I am, I am constantly reminded of how much I have to do before Christmas! It's one week away and I still have all my shopping to do. I remember promising myself I was going to get it all done in November. Oh well, I should have known better.

a walk in pittsburgh

I've been meaning to post these pictures from my trip to Pittsburgh with my mom last month. I loved walking around the neighborhood my mom grew up in and hearing the stories of her childhood friends and all their adventures. It was also a beautiful fall day! The colors of the leaves in these bright hues of orange, yellow and red were unbelievably gorgeous. Fall on the west coast is not nearly as nice!

I hope you all have a great weekend! I have absolutely no plans, which is actually kind of nice!

look book: beanie there, done that

 It's hard to believe it's already the end of October..and Halloween is just days away! I feel like I just brought out my fall/winter clothes last week! {And as LA would have it, it was 80 degrees today..major sad face}. Sometimes I really want to slow time down..and make the seasons stay in place!
