san diego sun and fun

Matthew and I went down to San Diego to celebrate his big bday with his family and we had such a great time, as usual! The weather was absolutely perfect so we got sandwiches and went to the beach with his brother and best friend. It was so nice to sit outside and soak in the sun.

I love Matthew's family so much! They are the sweetest people and I just adore my nieces and nephews {so cool to be able to say that now.. yay I'm an aunt!}. Look how cute these kiddos are! They bring big smiles to my face!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Happy first of August!!

wedding wednesday: bachelorette weekend

As I mentioned on Monday, this past weekend my best friends and bridesmaids threw me a bachelorette weekend in gorgeous Santa Barbara! Ten of my dearest and closest friend made the journey from all over {New York, San Francisco, LA, San Diego, and even Oklahoma City}. I felt so loved and special! We stayed in the beautiful Canary Hotel, which blew me away from a design perspective. I'm officially inspired to recreate something similar in my future apartment with Matthew. There were Spanish, Moroccan, even African influences and the colors and patterns were perfectly matched. love love loved it!
packing into a stuffed car, joking with Matthew saying "Vegas here we come!"
the most delicious french toast on warm berry preserves with a vanilla cream on top
texting Matthew at the end of the night!

I'm still majorly sleep deprived from the weekend but I have the most amazing memories to last a lifetime. I'm already wanting another trip with all these girls in a couple years. They were the best, most easy going group, and now I miss them all terribly!
{I also miss my Bachelorette crown!}

Ginger Off 2010

This was such a fun weekend, in large part due to the great time we had on Saturday night with my friend Eden and her husband Zan. Eden is the most crafty person I know and we could talk for hours about the most random stuff and have the best time ever! She also has a super cute blog where she features all her adorable and crafty projects. Because Eden and I get along so well, we knew we had to set up our guys! They hit it off over a good old fashioned Ginger Off! Eden baked gingerbread  all by herself and prepared the cutest table with all sorts of candy to decorate our houses! Let me just tell you, gingerbread house making is a serious serious task! It is also one of the most challenging things ever! Walls were falling down, frosting "glue" got everywhere and there was an intense struggle over who got to use coconut for snow, cinnamon sticks for the roof, and peep trees for.. well, trees haha. The competition was Eden and me vs Zan and Matthew. {I think we won hands down} In all fairness to the boys team, there was a certain teammate {cough..Matthew} who got so annoyed he stabbed his house with scissors and added two non-regulation items, some string and a bottle cap. grr
adorable, right?
my little house with the M above the door!

This was my first time making a gingerbread house but definitely not my last. I'm thinking it's going to have to be a yearly thing because it was so.much.fun! Besides, the boys probably want a rematch.

Have any of you made gingerbread houses before? Did you love it or hate it?

our first halloween party

On Friday night Matthew and I had our first Halloween party/get-together! We invited two close couple friends {Kim & Andre and Hanna & Todd} and of course Ginger! She's normally our little Ginger Bear but on Halloween she was Gingie-Bee! So cute! The ears didn't stay on too well but she was totally fine with the outfit! Target had some great options..I might have to go see what's on sale for next year!
Can you tell what we were? Matthew and I went as Dracula and Victim {not too original, I know!} and Kim and Andre were Avril and Brody! I loved how Andre even had an Avril "tattoo." too funny! I made some super easy pumpkin cupcakes and we all decorated them! I'll post the recipe later this week.
Happy November!!

wedding wednesday: fall in love bridal soirée

Last night, I had the opportunity to attend the Fall in Love Bridal Soirée hosted by the Jenny Yoo Collection. The event was held at The London West Hollywood and I brought my friend Kim along for a night of drinks, cupcakes, and, of course, a fashion show! It was fun to look at the pretty dresses and pick out the ones we would or wouldn't wear. I think I might have been most excited, though, about being able to finally try desserts from Sweet & Saucy Shop! They've been featured all over the place and Matthew's cousin's wife is really close friends with the owner. The cake balls were fantastic! I couldn't believe how moist they were. Although I have no other ones to compare them too, I think they were the best ever!

Highlights of the night included: a fun photo booth, a strange interruption by The Three Waiters {opera singers posing as "real" waiters at the event}, getting a heavy gift bag and being most excited about the lightest thing inside..macarons from Gordon Ramsey's restaurant!

Did any of you go to any bridal events? For me it was more about the experience than anything else. Matthew and I don't really want a "standard/traditional" wedding. We really just want a special and unique celebration, full of cute little touches! and lots of DIY!!
